Rick Steves, an American in Paris

The Cler Hotel is proud to feature in the famous Rick Steves tourist guide, America’s leading authority in the field of tourism and travel in Europe. Today, we want to take a look back at a great meeting that took place last summer at the hotel, when we welcomed Steve Smith, co-author of Rick Steves Paris.

Steves and Smith, lovers of Europe in the land of Uncle Sam

Rick Steves is the originator of the most popular travel guides in the United States and has hosted numerous television and radio programmes dedicated to travel. His name has become virtually synonymous with European travel. His mission? To inform Americans regarding travel, inspire them to discover Europe, reveal to them the splendour of this rich and varied continent, and encourage them to undertake pleasant trips that are as culturally enriching as they are affordable. Steves regards travel as a fantastic way to better understand and contribute to the world in which we live.

Rick Steves associate Steve Smith is known as the co-author of Rick Steves France and Paris Guides, and for his frequent participation in the Rick Steves TV programmes. Sharing his time between France, notably Burgundy where he and his wife renovated a farm, and the United States, to which he often returned, Steve Smith crisscrossed Europe to gather information and advice to use in the Rick Steves Europe guides. When he returns to the States, this enthusiast of everything European coordinates with the tourism services that send tens of thousands of travellers each year to our wonderful continent.

At the Cler Hotel we won’t forget our meeting with Steve Smith last summer. It was an exciting and enriching exchange of ideas around a coffee at the hotel. We were able to chat with him regarding tourism and the city of Paris. Today we would like to thank Steve again for this visit and the pleasure it gave us.

Tourism in the capital according to Rick Steves Paris

This Paris guide will give you many valuable tips for making the most of your time in Paris, as well as a wealth of recommendations on what to see during a trip lasting from one to seven days. You’ll find out how to prioritise your sightseeing according to the time you have to spend in our European cultural capital. You will also be able to arrange an itinerary that takes into account all the variables, including the days when certain sites are closed and how busy they are. This is particularly handy for Versailles, for example, where the main palace is closed on Mondays and can be overcrowded on Sundays and Tuesdays. Fancy a themed tour? You can follow the ‘Historic Paris’ walk, which includes the Ile de la Cité, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Latin Quarter and the Sainte-Chapelle, and if you like medieval art, there’s the Cluny Museum. The guide is full of good ideas such as climbing to the top of the Arc de Triomphe at dusk or discovering Paris By Night via taxi. There are ideas for walks and guided tours, and a wealth of advice on attractions for children, shopping, entertainment and both summer and winter activities.
